Summary

International links need to be strengthened in every time of crisis, and the coming energy and food crises are no different. Protectionism may seem like the best option for some countries, but the reality is that without cooperation, no country will be able to withstand the challenges facing us. As such, firm action will have to be taken to curb rising population levels, and every person will have to understand that unnecessary comforts will have to be sacrificed to ensure a peaceful future.

I agree that the population issue needs to be addressed and that a decentralized approach to energy are both istrumental towards dealing with some of the major challenges that are currently being posed. I especially like your proposal for the use of taxes covering a range of policy sectors. I think that it is critical to any discussion on issues of pollution/environmental degradation, as they are linked to the consumption of resources. Indeed, consumer behaviour can easily be modified by raising or lowering the price of a good. However, the idea of imposing a tax for x,y, or z might not be a popular one. Instead, as has been used in different sectors in the United States, a system that "rewards" certain behaviour should be implemented ie. cheaper energy at off peak hours and higher costs and peak times. This would force the consumer to think wisely about his or her consumption.
